Nerlens Noel expected Sam Hinkie's exit to solve 76ers' 'silly' center logjam

NBA Basketball

Some might say "you can't get enough of a good thing," but that phrase doesn't really work with basketball. The 76ers do have too much of a good thing, and that thing is the center position.

Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor and Joel Embiid are all good, talented young centers, but it's not logical to play all of them at once. These guys could all be starting centers for a team, and instead they are competing against one another.

This situation isn't new, but now that the season is drawing closer, the players are starting to complain.

"I think it's just silly," Noel said to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "This situation that we are in now with three starting centers.

"With the departure of [former general manager and president] Sam Hinkie, I would have figured that management would be able to get something done this summer."

Noel said he wasn't being disrespectful to the other guys, in fact, he's giving them a compliment. He says all three centers get along fine, but compared it to having three starting quarterbacks in the NFL. There's just no need for it.

"I think at the end of the day, again, you have three starting-caliber centers. And it's just not going to work to anybody's advantage having that on the same team. That's how I'm looking at it," Noel said. "I'm not opposed to anything, but things need to be situated."

The interesting part about Noel's quotes are that they come right before 76ers media day Monday. Now the en

tire session will be filled with questions about Noel's comments, and reaction from other players.
